The Games
The day begins with the Children’s Fancy Dress competition followed by a Procession through the centre of the village to the Playing Fields where the Opening Ceremony will take place. Here the Games Queen will be crowned, the new Chieftain will be presented with his crook and he will make his Address.
Throughout the day, the Main Arena is home to the Pipe Band and Drum Major contests where highly skilled local, regional and international bands compete. Elsewhere, the Solo Piping and Highland Dancing stages will showcase some of the finest Scottish and global talent.
The Display Arena will provide a range of alternative entertainment. From the local Gymnastics Club to burly Scots competing at the Heavy Events to weaponry demonstrations from a Medieval Re-enactment group who will engage in skirmishes to show off their weaponry expertise and combat skills.
Royal Dundonald Castle and the Visitor Centre is open all day and The Castle will also provide a magnificent backdrop for the Solo Lament at the end of the day.
Visit the Stalls & Craft Fayre where you will find a mix of commercial stalls and local clubs and organisations. To keep the kids entertained we have free face painting, Owl Magic and the Children’s Fun Fair.

Later on watch the locals battle it out at the Tug-o-war and marvel in awe as the Massed Pipe Bands parade through the village from the War Memorial to end the spectacle of the Dundonald Highland Games.
Finally, to round the day off follow a well respected local tradition and drink a toast to the Chieftain in The Old Castle Bar and Restaurant and continue the festivities in good company.
